Boil the pasta Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions (usually 8–10 minutes) until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the sauce Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant (do not let it burn).
Add tomatoes Pour in the crushed tomatoes or pasta sauce. Add salt, pepper, and herbs. Let it simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss well until evenly coated.
Serve Top with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
